http://csciwww.etsu.edu/gotterbarn/artpp2.htm Three Levels of Professional Software Engineering: the moral responsibility of software developers by Donald Gotterbarn, East Tennessee State University. Abstract: Software engineering curricula need to include an increased emphasis on professional conduct and software engineering ethics. The reasons for not doing this are based on a misunderstanding of the different levels of professional ethics. The levels of professional ethics are distinguished and a model of software engineering ethics has been developed. This model is of manageable scope, has practical resolution techniques, and is directly relevant to the activities of the software professional. This concept of software engineering ethics makes it an integral part of the TECHNICAL curriculum, rather than a tangential frill. This discussion is followed by a description of ways to introduce the study of this level of professional ethics into the curriculum. Full Article: http://csciwww.etsu.edu/gotterbarn/artpp2.htm |
